Professor Gail Kinman (Society of Occupational Medicine) and Rebecca Torry (LTF) have produced a new paper to support primary care organisations responding to the sudden and unexpected death of a colleague.
This paper updates their 2020 paper on ‘Responding to the death by suicide of a colleague in primary care‘, and responds to meaningful changes in the support systems available to primary care organisations since then. This includes, notably, the RCGP Sudden Bereavement Support set up to provide immediate guidance to practices. It also recognises that a sudden death for any reason creates similar stresses for a team and much of the original postvention framework will apply.
