Dr Alex Freeman qualified from the University of Southampton Medical School in 1988 and her current role is as a GP partner in a large training practice in Southampton where she holds a number of lead roles.

She represents doctors and medical students through her involvement with the British Medical Association and local GPs as a member of the Local Medical Committee.

Between 1999 and 2008 she was elected by the profession to serve on the General Medical Council, with a particular interest in medical education and equality and diversity.

A BMA medallist, awarded in part for her work on doctor wellbeing, she also holds a Master’s degree in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University in New York.
